Lava Lamps and the Science of Water

Ms. Kathleen’s first grade class celebrated reviewing letters and sounds by honoring the letter L with some DIY lava lamps. They explored the science behind why water is heavier than oil and how oxygen interacts with both to create cool bubbles through the oil, mimicking lava without the heat! The students had a great time constructing and watching their lava lamps come to life.
