Poplarville High School wins $1,000 prize in Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Contest

Poplarville High School wins $1,000 prize in Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi contest

Poplarville High School received a $1,000 check from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi on January 24th in conjunction with the Gridiron Classic MHSAA State Football Championships last month.

The week-long “Text to Win” contest matched schools and communities against their football opponents December 6th and December 7th at M.M. Roberts Stadium on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. The school in each of the six games that received the most texts to a designated keyword was the winner.

“We communicated well with everybody and tried to get them on board for this contest,” Poplarville principal Jonathan Will said. “They wanted to participate once they got word we were in this contest. That’s indicative of our school and our community. They wanted to try to win. Every dollar counts, so this will be put to good use for our students and student-athletes.”

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi is a longtime supporter of the MHSAA and title sponsor for the Gridiron Classic and Text to Win contest since 2012.

“Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi is proud to partner with MHSAA to support student athletics and P.E. programs through the Gridiron Classic and the Text to Win contest,” said Courtney Grimes, Public Relations Specialist for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi. “High school athletics give students opportunities to establish healthy habits that will last a lifetime. We look forward to a continued partnership with MHSAA to support healthy futures for our students throughout Mississippi.”
