Making Butter

Mrs. Mindy and Ms. Sharon’s 3rd grade classes learned about changing liquids to solids by making butter.  The students placed whipping cream (liquid) into small jars and shook it until it became butter (solid). Then they had the opportunity to sample their product with saltine crackers.  Not only was this a great science lesson, it also became a reading/writing lesson in which the students had to write the steps in sequential order and list the materials used. Art was also incorporated by having the students draw a before and after picture of the process.
