STEM Students Design A Paper Table

On Thursday, April 28, 2016, Special Populations Coordinator, Ms. Ann Bosworth, directed the Poplarville High School STEM classes in a challenging engineering activity. The students worked with a partner to design and build a table out of newspaper tubes.  The table had to be at least eight inches tall and strong enough to hold a heavy book. The only materials that students could use were a 12” cardboard square, 8 sheets of newspaper, and masking tape.  To test the design of their table, each group stacked as many engineering textbooks as their table would support.  If the table collapsed, the students then brainstormed, redesigned, rebuilt, and retested their tables.
