Regional Scholastics Art & Writing Winner

Each year, Scholastics holds its annual Art and Writing Awards, in which students grades 7-12 may submit their original art or writing pieces. Students first submit their work to their regional sponsor, and regional gold key pieces get submitted for nationals.

Mercedes Mayfield submitted her pieces for the 2014 regional competition at the Eudora Welty House, the sponsor over all of Mississippi, and earned an Honorable Mention for her memoir “Daddy Who?” and another Honorable Mention for her short story “Burnt Bacon” under the instruction of Lauren Owen. Mercedes and Mrs. Owen will be traveling to Jackson for the Regional Awards Ceremony on April 13 at the Eudora Welty House.

Congratulations to Mercedes for her writing accomplishments!
