Revision to Mississippi Public School Accountability Standards, 2004
Appendix A
Graduation Requirements for Seniors 2011-2012 and later
Beginning school year 2008-2009 and thereafter, the Mississippi State Department of Education requires that all entering ninth graders be enrolled in a college preparatory curriculum. This constitutes the addition of Algebra II, a fourth credit of Science, geography, and economics. A parent/guardian may opt the student out of the college preparatory curriculum to complete graduation under the current (pre graduation year 2011-2012 and thereafter) requirements for a standard high school diploma:
- A student has reached the point that he/she is unable to schedule the required classes prior to anticipated graduation date. (Example: Student is a junior who still lacks both Algebra I and Geometry for their senior year)
- Student fails any of the additional courses during the senior year. (Example: A senior fails Algebra II BUT still has enough credits/required courses to graduate with a traditional diploma.
- IEP stipulates a traditional diploma
