The students in Mrs. Lisa Bagleys Kindergarten Class completed a My Five Senses unit. Students participated in daily activities which focused on their sight, hearing, touching, smelling, and tasting. To end the lesson, students learned about their taste buds and where taste buds are located on the tongue. Students then tasted food items that were salty, sour, sweet, and bitter. The lemon was definitely a favorite!! |

PHS Dance Team to Perform at Halftime |

Wednesday, 01 September 2010 |

The PHS Dance Team had a long term dream come true last Friday night when they performed their kick routine during HALFTIME! Up until then the team had always performed pregame. "It has been a goal of Mrs. Merritt, Mrs. Burge and myself to figure out a way to have the girls dance at halftime" said new sponsor, Mrs. Janet Kennedy. "This is a dream come true! Logistics had prevented it from happening in the past but everything seems to have finally fallen into place for us and 2010 is a football season we will never forget!"
The Dance Team will be featured again during halftime of the Lumberton game this Friday night and plans are in the works to be involved in one of the Green Machine's halftime tunes later in the season. "Mr. Tidwell has been very receptive to and supportive of our desire to be a part of the wonderful halftime entertainment."

The PHS Pop Choir is an after school singing group that performs "pop" music at a variety of venues.
There is no set number of students that can/will be chosen. It has been as small as 4 and as large as 14.
"I'm looking for students who love to sing and want a chance to put their singing talents to use! There are a lot of students who sing their hearts out in the shower before coming to school everyday and I think being a member of this group would be a great way for them to get that talent out in the open!" said group director Janet Kennedy.
The auditions are Tues., Aug. 31 and Thurs., Sept. 2 from 3:00-4:00. Interested students need to stop by room 602 to get details and sign up for a 5 min. audition spot. They need to sing a PREPARED song using a instrumental/accompaniment track, live piano/guitar or even a capella. The two most important things are that they are PREPARED and that they have a good voice !

Come join the PHS Honeybees for a delicious hamburger plate at The Star Café after the Poplarville vs Lumberton game (Sept. 3)!
The Honeybees are all about school spirit so it seemed only natural to combine their spirit with the ever-present need for raising funds for their many competitions and travel.
The students are always looking for a place to socialize after the games and they are ALWAYS hungry! said Honeybee sponsor Janet Kennedy. Liz and Rafe Smith, owners of The Star Café are excited about hosting the event. They had already planned to have a dinner buffet for hungry fans before the game and agreed with us that a Hamburger Plate Special for fans after the game would be perfect!
The Honeybees will be pre-selling tickets for $7.00. The ticket is good for a delicious homemade hamburger, fries, a cookie/brownie and a beverage. It all starts immediately after the game and ends at midnight. You may dine in or get takeout.
Tickets can be purchased from any of the 16 PHS Dance Team members, by calling Mrs. Kennedy at 601-795-8372 or emailing her at

Poplarville's boys soccer team has a new coach, Adam Smith. Coach Smith graduated from USM with a degree in Coach and Sports Administration.
This is Smith's first year to coach. "I am looking forward to this season, we are looking good so far this year" he said.
There are 25 players on the roster this year. The returning players are Ethan Paschal, Shaun Hollywood, Jacob Hernandez, Spencer Bayhi, Dakota Thomas, Jared Johnson, and Christian Powell. This is also the first year that the high school has had an eighth grader on its soccer team. "Young but not inexperienced" Smith said.
The soccer program will have their very first junior varsity team, and they will have five or six games. The varsity soccer team will have nineteen games. Coach Smith, and all of his players, would like for everyone to come and support them at their first home game on November 9 against Pearl River Central. |
