The Middle School of Poplarville implemented a new positive behavior program in February. This program is based on a reward system. Students are rewarded frequently with things like free time, popcorn, cotton candy, popsicles, karaoke singing, colored hair spray, graffiti walls, etc. Last week, after the MCTs, we had an end of the year celebration honoring those students who had achieved certain levels of positive behavior.
Items such as Poplarville Hornets t-shirts and hats, candy, iTune gift cards, subway gift cards, and movie theater gift cards were given away. The grand prize, an iPod Touch, was drawn by Mrs. Stevens and 7th grader Emily M. was the recipient. Thank you to all of those Middle School teachers and students who made our positive behavior program a success this year!! Be on the lookout for even greater things next year! |

Students in Carolyn Seals and Renay Rigneys Fourth Grade Discover classes recently presented their projects from a unit on Simple Machines. Taught in conjunction with the KNEX Education curriculum, this unit allowed students to build KNEX models of simple machines that highlighted mechanical principles and related them to the real world. The students shared their finished products along with snapshots from a PUE Scavenger Hunt. The display featured pictures of common simple machines that the students located throughout the school campus.
The highlight of the day was the display of a 4 ft. tall motorized machine called The Big Ball Factory. During the unit, all 27 students worked in teams to build this complex design made up of various simple machines. They also sponsored a contest in which the entire fourth grade attempted to guess the exact number of KNEX pieces used to build the Big Ball Factory. The winners took home a giant Hershey bar!
