 PHS students readied themselves to cheer the Hornets at a pep rally on Friday, August 31. Students will be ready to help the football team at their first game of the year tonight at the PRCC stadium.

 Mr. Mel Halls second period advanced biology class is working with fruit flies, Drosophila melanogaster, which possess many different traits. Students have been working on this basic Mendelian experiment replicating Gregor Mendels experiment determining traits and masked genes, which will prove that there are two discreet traits in an organism. Hall is a science teacher at Poplarville High School who teaches biology, advanced biology, AP biology, marine biology, astronomy, and theater.
In the beginning of the project students had to sex the flies according to gender. Halls students did this by looking at the tops of the flies between the wings because the males possess a sex comb, a patch of hair, on their tops between the wings and the females do not possess this trait. |

 Hornet Stadium is still not completed. According to Poplarville School District Superintendent Carl Merritt, the stadium is not finished because, Some of the services are still being worked on and the inspections are not yet finished.
Although the stadium is not completed, the Hornets are still having a home game. The Hornets will kick off the season at Dobie Holden Stadium at the Pearl River Community College at 7:30 pm playing against the West Jones Mustangs. Following the first game of the season, the team will attend two away games at Forest and Stone County. The teams next home game on September 21 against Long Beach is expected to be played in the new Poplarville High School stadium.
On Tuesday, the lights were being installed as shown in the picture at left. |

 On Friday, August 17 th the Poplarville Fire Department made their annual appearance to the Career Development Center, discussing fire safety with the allied health students. The Fire Department taught the Allied Health students fire safety to help insure their safety, in learning those techniques it contributed to their safety unit studies.
The Allied Health students are also beginning to excel in proper body mechanics. The students worked with a mechanical lift, used to lift the patient from a bed to a wheelchair, which was designed to move the patient with little stress to the workers body.
