A banquet was held in honor of the three women at the Lower Elementary cafeteria. There Fitzpatrick remarked on her 35 year career saying, "I have wonderful memories throughout the district and hope to come back and volunteer." The event was attended by family, friends, and fellow staff who presented the honorees with commemorative plaques.

 

Carl Merritt will be taking Fitzpatrick's place at the end of the school year and said this of the three retirees, "These are three great individuals that we appreciate and love."

 

After a long flight from Gulfport to Atlanta to New York, the Poplarville Ocean Bowl Team A arrived in Stoneybrook on Thursday, the 26^th of April. The team arrived a day before the official NOSB activities started so they would have the opportunity to see New York City. There they took a Grayline tour bus which took them through the city to see such places as Ground Zero and the Empire State Building. Although the weather was rainy and cold, the team, along with several chaperones, still enjoyed the city.

 

Teams B and C flew in the next day, and while team A was on NOSB field trips to points of interest around Long Island, they toured New York.  

 

This year, PHS received the award again for academic excellence in all sports and extra-curricular activities.

 

In an interview with athletic activities director John Miller, he said, "This comes from dedication and hard work of all the coaches and teachers to motivate students to do their best." Miller worked with the teachers and coaches this year to implement a system where athletes had to have a weekly report signed by their teachers showing their academic performance and behavior. This report was turned into the coaches. With the increased communication between coaches and teachers, the athletes were motivated to not only do better in their game, but also in class.

 

"School is all about the kids. Our goal is to get every kid to perform to the best of his or her ability," said Miller.

 

There will be a district meeting in the fall to honor all of the teams involved.

 

The following sports and activities all received the 3.0 award: Cheerleading, Dance, Baseball, Boys' Track, Boys' Basketball, Boys' Soccer, Girls' Track, Girls' Soccer, Girls' Basketball, Fast-Pitch Softball, Slow-Pitch Softball, Tennis, Golf, Band, and Football.
