The Poplarville Career Development students visited Northrop
Grumman Industries and Mississippi Power?s Plant Watson in Gulfport, Thursday, October 26, 2006. The main purpose for the visit was for the
students to listen to different people talk about their occupations. At
Northrop Grumman the students saw composite parts for military and coast guard
ships in production. The female students were able to listen to female workers
talk about their nontraditional jobs. At
Plant Watson, where Mississippi
power burns coal to make electricity, the students saw the control rooms and
turbines. |

Mrs. Purvis? Life Skills class at MSP has been learning
about the fall season and the types of vegetables that are grown during this
time of year. As part of the unit, the
class went on a field trip to Mitchell Farm Pumpkin Patch. All had a good time as the class went on a hayride, wandered
through a grass maze, strolled through a sunflower field, and waded through a
corn pool. Students were able to select
a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch to bring back with them.
Later in the week, the students decorated
their pumpkins. The class also made
pumpkin pie and roasted pumpkin seeds. |

This year, the PHS Hornets? have honored one student each
week with the title of ?Twelfth Man.?
This lucky student had the privilege of retrieving the kicking-tee for
the Hornets during the home football games.
As a token of their appreciation, Head Coach Lance Mancuso and the
Hornets presented each Twelfth Man with an official Hornet jersey. The Twelfth Man was also introduced at each pep
rally and football game.
At the last home game Friday night against Pearl River
Central, this year?s Twelfth man participants were introduced at half-time as

Mrs. Lisa Bagley?s Kindergarten
class has been studying pumpkins and apples all week. One measuring activity we
did with our class was estimating the circumference of a pumpkin. Each student
cut a piece of yarn they thought would fit around the pumpkin. We then labeled a
chart with ?too long?, ?too short? and ?just right?. We then measured the
pumpkin with a real tape measure to get the actual measurement. The
students are really enjoying learning all about
pumpkins.
