Summer is almost here and you can feel it in the air! The students of first grade are very eager and excited at this time of the school year.

March, April, and May have been very busy for us. In March we had our annual ?Book Parade? and the whole Lower Elementary celebrated our Reading month by making a trip to King?s Arrow Ranch. At the ranch, we had our ?Fun for Funds? activities which included an obstacle course, a 50 yard dash, roller races, and a hoola hoop contest. The kids also enjoyed the free play time which included fun jumpers, face paint, and feeding the fish at the pond.

In April, we had an Easter party in which we had ice cream sundaes. The children loved it.

In May, we complete our end of the year testing and do a test called the Terra Nova. It is an achievement test which will tell us how our children compare to each other, to others in our area, and to others in the nation.

Poplarville School District Sponsors a Community Health Fair

On Friday May 12, 2006, the Poplarville School District will be sponsoring a free community heath fair from 9am-4pm at the Pearl River County Fairgrounds. The Health Fair will offer free health screenings, educational experiences, networking opportunities, and lots of information.

When asked about the Heath Fair Debra Smith commented, ?The Poplarville School District is hosting this Health Fair as a gift to the community after Hurricane Katrina. We are trying to help our community to work towards total wellness.?

Chance J. Theriot was named as a STAR (Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition) Student for the 2005-2006 school year by the Mississippi Economic Council?s M. B. Swayze Educational Foundation, sponsor of the STAR program. The Poplarville High School senior was honored during the 16th annual Education Celebration on April 7 at Mississippi College in Clinton. This prestigious event was co-sponsored by Entergy Mississippi, BellSouth, Mississippi Power Company, and BancorpSouth.

The Poplarville Boy's Soccer team held their awards banquet Thursday, April 6 .  The following awards were presented to these players:

Nathan Bowman--Best Forward,  MVP Offense, First Team All District

Chris Bond--Best Midfielder

Riley Smith--Defense

T.K. delaHoussaye-Sweeper award

Robert Tatum--MVP Defense,  Second Team All District

Michael Kammer--Leadership Award,  Second Team All District

Tryouts for the 2006-2007 season were held April 18th and 19th.  The following players were selected:
