Cowboys, crayons, fishing poles, animals, pajamas, and pirates.  These are just a few things that could be seen at P.L.E.’s Book Parade.  Each class selected a book or story and dressed up as characters from that book.  Then dressed in their costumes, the students and staff paraded down Main Street.  This year’s Book Parade was held on Thursday, April 25th.  A large number of people attended the parade, and everyone seemed to have a great time!

Testing Time Tips
High School
Monday, 29 April 2013 20:27

As end of the year jitters start to set in, exam and state test preparation is in full swing.  Here are a few tips to get you through the testing season.

  • Eat a good breakfast on the day of the test. Don’t include too many carbs or heavy foods though. They will only make you sluggish and tired after about an hour. Stick to protein filled foods. They will give you extra energy.
  • Remember whatever posters your teacher had on the walls. They really do help you during testing, especially on English tests.
  • Get a good full night’s sleep the night before a test. If you normally go to bed at one in the morning, start going to bed slightly earlier for a week or two before the test. Do NOT pull an all-nighter.
  • Ask your teacher to explain anything you know you do not understand. Do NOT wait until the day before to ask questions.
  • Do NOT stress out! You’ve been preparing all semester or year for the test. Believe in yourself and your abilities.
  • Get to school early on the day of the test. This will give you enough time to eat breakfast and go to the bathroom before going into the test.
  • Do NOT forget pencils. Yes, the test proctors usually have pencils. This does not give you an excuse to forget them on purpose.
  • Pace yourself. For state tests, you have as much time as you need. If you cannot figure out a question, skip it and come back to it at the end.
  • Read the WHOLE QUESTION. Never assume anything about the question. State tests like to include trick answers. You might pick one if you do not read the entire question.
  • Do not worry about being the first or last to finish the test. Just do your best and focus on your own test.
  • Look over your test before turning it in. Make sure all questions are answered.
  • Only change an answer if you are absolutely sure you misread or misinterpreted a question. Your first answer is usually the correct one.

graduation_1.gif

The final days before graduation are steadily approaching; however, the ceremonies cannot begin without a few reminders.

Graduation practice will be on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at 8:30 a.m.  This practice will be held at the Poplarville High School football stadium on campus.  As seniors will receive their caps and gowns during this time, it is VERY important for EVERY senior to be there.

Senior Awards Night will be on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at 7:00 p.m.  This ceremony will be held in the Poplarville High School gymnasium.  It is open to guests of the students, and a ticket is not required.  During this ceremony, seniors will receive their scholarships and awards.  Seniors MUST wear their graduation gowns to Senior Awards Night.  Underneath their gowns, seniors must be dressed nicely.  This means NO jeans, sandals, flip-flops, or tennis shoes.

Graduation will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. for all students who have completed graduation requirements.  This ceremony will take place at the Poplarville High School football stadium on campus.  Photos for IHL, CDC, and dual completers will be taken at 5:30 p.m. outside of the CDC building.  Again, seniors are to dress nicely.  It is recommended that the young men wear dark slacks and brown or black shoes.  The young ladies should keep in mind the long walk across the football field as they choose their shoes.  White flat shoes would be best.  For both guys and girls, this means NO jeans, sandals, flip-flops, or tennis shoes.  Graduating seniors need to be at the front doors of the 400 wing (English building) by 6:00 p.m.  Guests should fill the home side of the stadium first.

After the graduation ceremony, students must return their gowns to their homeroom teachers in the assigned 400 wing homeroom classes.

I went out to ask the seniors of Poplaville High School some advice they want to give to the underclassmen and upcoming freshmen:

Sara Price:

“Enjoy your high school career while it last. And don’t DROP OUT!”

        Dakota Thomas:

“Make everyday count because there going to fly by!”

        Larke Bickham:

“Don’t wait to late to start trying”

        Jared Johnson:
