AEST Students Tour Pearl River Utility Waste Treatment Plant

The Poplarville Agriculture Environmental Class toured the Pearl River Utility Authority's Waste Treatment Plant in Poplarville Friday, November 6, 2015.  Mr. Cliff Hodges gave the students a walking tour of the physical plant.  He was assisted by Cody Morris. Mr. Hodges explained to the students that the sewage treatment plant uses natural bacteria to break down the sewage before it returns to the environment. He also explained that technology is used to monitor the plant.  All alerts come through their cell phones.  Mr. Anthony Hall spoke to the students about the career opportunities in waste water treatment.  He said that you can advance up the career ladder by adding certifications.  Mr. Hall said that once you are certified you are qualified to find a job in any town.
