The Poplarville High School Track & Field team competed in the Class 4A State Championship Meet at Pearl High School in Jackson. The Lady Hornets entered the State Championship meet participating in 11 of 17 events having dropped some events due to injury and personal matters. The Lady Hornets lost Jenascia Peters, to a hip injury knocking out 4 strong events and causing Poplarville to drop 35points even before the competition began. The girl’s team ended up finishing 7th overall.
The Boys team (pictured above [Eric Wells not shown]) finished 3rd overall, 66 points behind Port Gibson who had 80pts. Tylertown won the State Champions with 86 points. Our boy’s team put up a good fight with only 6 boys in just 7 of the 17 events, which meant the boys had 10 events they did not participate in and the boys still finished 3rd.
Several records were set by PHS in the competition. Click "Read More" below to find out about the new records.

Graduation Ceremony Information
High School
Monday, 23 April 2012 15:25
Dear Parents of graduating seniors,
CONGRATULATIONS! As we approach the final days before your child's graduation, there are a few things we would like to bring to your attention.
Graduation practice will be held Tuesday May 22nd at 8:30 A.M. at Poplarville High School Stadium on the High School campus. It is very important for every senior to be there. Seniors will pick up caps and gowns at practice. The gowns will be worn at both the awards program and graduation.
The Senior Awards Night will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday May 22nd. The Senior Awards ceremony will be held in the PHS gym. At this ceremony, the seniors will receive scholarships and awards.
Graduation will be Thursday evening, May 24th at 7:00 P.M. The ceremony will take place at the Poplarville High School Stadium. Pictures for IHL, CDC, and dual completers will be taken at 5:30. Once again we would like the seniors to dress nicely. We recommend that the young men wear dark slacks and brown or black shoes (no sandals, flip-flops, or tennis shoes). The young ladies need to keep in mind that they will be walking across a football field and white flat shoes would be best (no flip-flops or tennis shoes). The graduating seniors need to be at the front doors of the 400 wing by 6:00 P.M. Guests will be seated on the home side of the stadium.
After the ceremony, students will need to return their gowns to their home room teacher in the 400 wing assigned classroom.
Thank You,
Ilene Davis, Principal
Gary Malley, Assistant Principal

PHS Students on the Pascagoula River
High School
Friday, 11 May 2012 14:28
The Pascagoula River is the only river flowing into the Gulf of Mexico that is unaffected by humans, or almost unaffected. While the Pascagoula has no dams and flows unaffected from its beginnings in George County to its entrance into the Mississippi Sound, the Pascagoula suffers from the affects of population growth and industry and the resulting pressures created with human use.
Students from Mr. Broom’s Agriculture class and Mr. Hall’s AP Biology class visited the Pascagoula, hosted by Dr. Shelia Brown of the University of Southern Mississippi. Joining Dr. Brown was Rick Ranew of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and Captain McCoy, who guided the students through the many bayous associated with the Pascagoula.
7th grade science teacher and former police officer, Rocky Hester, recently spoke with the students in MSP’s CCLC afterschool program. Mr. Rocky used stories from his own life and his job as a police officer to encourage the students to set goals and persevere to reach them. Mr. Rocky shared about his police training and the goals he set for himself in life and how he reached those goals. He also discussed his decision to become a teacher to make an impact in the lives of young people.
FBLA Goes to Dauphin Island
High School
Thursday, 10 May 2012 17:23
Last weekend, FBLA members took their annual trip to Dauphin Island, Alabama, where they studied conservation, the environment, and technologies of the past. The group took a four-mile bike ride from their lodging to Fort Gaines in order to observe the scenery around the island while using green transportation and promoting fitness. The students learned about the living conditions and the technologies of Civil War times and witnessed a cannon being fired and a re-enactment of military procedures. Some of the students even participated in firing black powder rifles. The members took their return bike ride to the beach so they could make a difference to the earth by picking up trash along the shoreline.
FBLA participates in community service activities for protecting and improving the environment while promoting business and industry, education, and technology. Please make an effort to help keep our planet clean. Reduce, reuse, recycle!
